Mehdi Boufares (Iridium Patrimoine): Planning Ahead for a Stress-Free Transition

After 17 years in the automotive industry, Mehdi Boufares decided to put people and strategy back at the center of his daily work. Trained in wealth management and wealth engineering, he founded Iridium Patrimoine in Moyeuvre-Grande in 2021, driven by a strong conviction: wealth transfer is not just a matter of numbers; it is, above all, a story of family, values, and informed choices.

Drawing on his dual background in practical and academic experience, he now guides his clients through key moments: anticipating, structuring, easing concerns, and protecting. In this interview, he shares his vision of succession: the most common pitfalls, the levers for reconciliation between generations, the solutions that prevent deadlocks… and above all, the central idea that planning is about offering peace of mind to those who matter.

What are the main pitfalls you observe in succession strategies?

The main pitfalls often involve a lack of foresight and communication within families. Many clients wait until succession is imminent before taking action, which can lead to conflicts or unnecessary costs. Others neglect to diversify their assets or consider the tax implications of certain transfers, which can significantly reduce the amounts passed on to heirs.

How do you reconcile the sometimes conflicting interests between generations?

The key is discussion and transparency. Each generation has its own priorities: some prioritize financial security, while others wish to support an entrepreneurial or real estate venture. We organize family meetings and offer tailored solutions, such as property dismemberment or progressive gifts, so that everyone can find a balance and the transfer can proceed without tension.

Can you share an example where estate planning helped prevent a family dispute?

Recently, we worked with a family where two children wanted to take over the family business while a third preferred a different path. Thanks to advance planning and tailored legal solutions, we organized a distribution of capital that respected everyone’s wishes and avoided any potential conflict. The succession went smoothly, and everyone was able to pursue their plans with peace of mind.

Are discussions about inheritance tax reform changing the way your clients view succession planning?

Yes, many clients are wondering about the potential consequences of these reforms. Even though nothing has been definitively adopted yet, we encourage them to plan ahead and adjust their strategy accordingly. Proactive planning helps secure the transfer and minimize the tax impact, regardless of upcoming legislative changes.

Our approach is, above all, personalized and educational. We regularly monitor changes in assets and family needs, and we adapt legal and tax solutions accordingly. The goal is to ensure a smooth transfer, protect each generation, and enable everyone to achieve their goals while preserving the family’s assets.
